Overview

Discover a wild place that ex-diver (now On Board's owner) Pieter van der Woude used to call his second home Explore a beautiful, notoriously exposed stretch of coastline normally reserved for the hardiest of bushwalkers and most fearless of fishermen – skipper Pieter van der Woude included. The southwest coast was for many years Pieter’s ‘office’ as an abalone diver. On our passage, there’s endless opportunity for visits to Pieter’s old haunts, picnics on untracked beaches, hikes to wilderness peaks and soaking up spectacular scenery from a soft lounge. Encounter Wild Islands See the wind-battered islands and ragged rocks which stretch along the exposed south coast. Pass Maatsuyker Island, home to Australia’s most southerly lighthouse, and part of a group of islands renowned for rich marine life and wild weather conditions. Cruise Cape to Cape Between South East Cape and South West Cape lies an extraordinary coastline woven with hidden bays, rugged mountain ranges and remote stretches of untrodden beaches. It’s a wet and wild kind of beauty here. Swells regularly reach six metres, wind gusts peak at 176km/h and there are 249 rain days/year on average. Go Beyond the Beyond Say goodbye to phone reception, roads and civilisation as you know it. Beyond South East Cape lies true wilderness, only experienced by a privileged few. We’ll have the ocean to ourselves, bar the odd fishing vessel and a lonely yacht on the horizon. Be Guided by Local Experts Head into the wilderness with our all-star crew. From the skipper, to the host and the hand-picked expert guides, our talented and passionate team are the heart of this unforgettable experience. Their intimate knowledge of Tasmania will connect people to place. Plus, they’re funny and love to share a story (or three).

Cruise Itinerary

This intimate four-night expedition tracks Tasmania’s rugged, rarely-seen southern coastline, from Hobart to Port Davey. Journey with us along Tasmania’s wild southern edge, a notoriously exposed stretch of coast normally reserved for the hardiest of bushwalkers and most fearless of fishermen. Cruise from Bruny Island to South East Cape, Maatsuyker Island to South West Cape, and into the sheltered waters of Port Davey. Take in dramatic landscapes from the viewing decks and soft lounges aboard Odalisque. Ashore and afloat, the experience is wild, tailored and immersive. The weather shapes the itinerary, daily activities and the evenings’ anchorages - which may mean overnight anchorages on the south coast, or full-steam ahead to Port Davey. Whatever the route, there’s endless opportunity for picnics on untracked beaches, hikes to wilderness peaks and soaking up spectacular scenery. Tender and shore excursions into Port Davey, Bathurst Harbour and south coast wilderness are about “getting your feet wet”, as skipper and founder Pieter van der Woude says. So pull on your boots, grab a jacket and step On Board for an unforgettable experience.

Odalisque III

Vessel Type: Catamaran Length: 24 metres Passenger Capacity: 12 Built: 2022 Brand-New Expedition Catamaran Purpose-built in 2022 for an intimate wilderness experience in Tasmanian waters, the vessel houses just 12 guests in its six stylish cabins. Aboard there are two spacious guest lounges, three outdoor viewing decks and an open bridge – all with magnificent water aspects. Go beyond your comfort zone without giving up your creature comforts, on Odalisque III. Tender Vessels Daily tender excursions are made aboard our two tenders – 15ft aluminum dinghies which we affectionately call ‘tinnies’. These twin tinnies are versatile, safe and fast vessels. They’re well suited to handling the weather conditions of Tasmanian waters, which can change quickly, and have comfortable, stable seating. These tenders are ideal for exploring rocky inlets and sea caves, due to their maneuverability and easy handling. Our tinnies were built to handle the best (and worst) of Tasmania’s wind, rain and waves. So that our guests too can head out whatever the weather, On Board provides weatherproof rain ponchos for all tender excursions.
