Snorkel or Dive
Wakatobi was first created by divers to deliver the ultimate experience at the perfect location for a resort in terms of geography, climate, oceanic topography and marine biodiversity. To ensure its future we then created one of the world’s largest privately protected marine reserves. This boutique beachfront property in the middle of the famous Coral Triangle faces one of the most biodiverse coral reef environments on Earth. The surrounding waters deliver an unmatched wealth of marine life, and a compelling range of underwater landscapes.
Soon after, the resort gained international reputation for plenitude of facilities and comforts to make any trip an experience that you will cherish. So if you're a snorkeler, you are equally welcome ... Wakatobi welcomes an increasingly large proportion of snorkelers every year as the location becomes more popular among travellers looking for that something different in paradise.
"Wakatobi is somewhere you come to have a holiday. First and foremost, it's one of the most beautiful luxury resorts in the world. Second, it caters for divers and snorkelers who want to explore Wakatobi's incredible biodiversity right off the beach" Linda cash, Wakatobi.
Benefit from our extremely knowledgeable marine snorkel guides who know where marine inhabitants live and will show you, along with advice to help your photography.
Snorkelers who join the morning and afternoon boat excursions (or who opt for the Unlimited Snorkelling package) are accompanied by a professional snorkel guide versed in the marine life of our reefs.
Snorkelling equipment as well as camera and video systems are handled by our team and will already be on the boat when you step aboard. Towels, snacks and camera assistance are also provided and the boat crew constantly monitors you for safety while you are in the water.
By hopping aboard one of the resort’s day boats, snorkelers gain access to dozens of additional snorkelling sites. One favourite snorkel site just a short boat ride away from the resort is Turkey Beach. This site is best known for its resident population of sea turtles, which can be often found gliding along the edge of the drop-off.
In addition to the turtles, this site is often loaded with a variety of fish life, including eagle rays and Bumphead Parrotfish. The underwater terrain consists of a series of ridges riddled with shallow overhangs and undercuts festooned in a vast array of hard and soft corals.
We came to Wakatobi to see world class coral, and it delivered that by the bucket load. The icing on the cake is the fantastic service provided by each and every member of the team. It’s hard to believe we could find a better snorkelling experience anywhere else in the world.” Deborah & Patrick O’Leary, October 2018
Our highly qualified professional dive staff are second to none in the industry. All of our dive guides have an average of 3,000 dives each. Your safety, comfort, and enjoyment is their utmost concern. Regardless of your skill level, they will take the time to make sure you have a great time cruising the reefs. For advanced divers, we also have instructor-level guides with cave diving and rebreather specialties. And naturally, all of our guides know the reefs of Wakatobi like the back of their hand. If there’s a critter you have always wanted to see (like a pygmy seahorse?) they will know the place to find it.
We cater to air, nitrox, and rebreather users as well as snorkelers and freedivers with comprehensive support facilities. And if you like to travel light, we offer a full range of premium quality gear for rental including regulators, masks, fins, dive computers, BCDs and torches.
Our dive centre has everything you need to support your diving activities including rental of well-maintained dive gear, a fully-equipped camera room and a modern compressor room and tank filling center delivering unlimited air supplies.
Comfortable and spacious day boats
Our boats are based on traditional Indonesian boat designs and are built locally. They are fabricated to our specifications and are tailored to maximize the comfort for divers. They are very spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, including a (very clean) tiled bathroom in the back.
Support for Nitrox divers
We operate two state-of-the-art Nitrox Technologies membrane systems fed by multiple water-cooled Bauer compressors.
Dive courses including nitrox certification
Longer bottom times, shorter surface intervals, less fatigue. These are among the many benefits of diving Nitrox, a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in which the concentration of oxygen is greater than that found in air. You’ve no doubt heard of Nitrox, probably know divers who use it. Using Nitrox safely requires special training and certification. Wakatobi Resort is associated with PADI, SDI & TDI. You can chose any Nitrox course option (minimum age 15) as long as you hold any kind of open water diving license – the licenses are recognized by all diving associations. Advanced Nitrox certification is also available as well as Open Water. (find out more)
Technical Diving Services
Advanced and fully trained technical divers can utilise their skill by taking advantage of Wakatobi’s Technical Diving Services. At Wakatobi we offer Advanced Nitrox diving in all oxygen concentrations. CCR divers with Trimix certification can take advantage of Trimix (HeliAir) diluents and bailout gases. Advanced diving packages are available. Advanced Nitrox or Extended Range divers desiring multiple Nitrox mixes for faster decompression, please bring your certification card to obtain Nitrox gases up to 42% plus 100% pure oxygen (for Decompression stops 6 m and shallower).
